We chanced upon this place, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) on our way to the National Stadium BTS station. MJ saw a poster for a photographic exhibition on one of the BTS columns and lo and behold, the BACC was just to the right of the poster, with an entrance access from the skybridge. We'd seen this building before, it's hard to miss as they constanly have giant sculptures in the plaza in front of the building, and one can see it from the skybridge on the way to MBK. This photo exhibition gave us reason to step into the building and I'm glad we did. The buidling is reminiscent of the Guggenheim in New York, (vaguely reminscent) and has a very arty feel to it, with spiral walkways and curved walls on which photographs are hung. We were there prior to an exhibition opening of students' works and I must say the quality of the work was pretty good. The prints are nice, the subject matter varied and overall, of good quality. We managed to get a souvenir book compiling all their works and the printing and design of the book is also very impressive. This is the most attractive aspect about travelling independently and not on a guided tour. You're bound to discover new things along the way and you're free to act upon it, without being restricted to an itinerary. It's happened to us several times when we travelled, and it reaffirms our decision that the days of guided tours are definitely over for us!
We want to try to get Meg's portrait sketch done on this trip. There was an opportunity here but the artist wasn't around!
The two giant 'ultrawomen' at the ground entrance level of the BACC. Meg was quite scared of them! I had to coax her into posing with them in the pix at the top!
These were shot on the 8th and 9th floors where the exhibition is being held. MJ shot these cos Meg and I didn't go inside. I wanted to sit down and we couldn't take our bags in and rather than leave our expensive equipment with the counter, I decided to rest and to take care of our stuff.
There were quite a few distractions along the way which delayed our trip to On Nut. The skybridge outside National Stadium BTS station had filled with vendors selling cheap t-shirts and souvenirs. It was hard to walk away from such good deals and we ended up buying two t-shirts for MJ and one for Meg.
Rush hour on the train. Again, I got a seat...without fail!
Feet!
