This was more like an invitation to sweat, when we visited the grounds in front of Victoria Theatre on opening night last Friday. The air was still and staid, and the heat generated by the performance really added to the already humid atmosphere. It was visually good for pix though, but we didn't stay very long as we couldn't take the heat.In my younger days, the annual Arts and Film Festivals used to excite me and I would spend between $100 - $200 on tix for each festival. It gets worse if your companion to these events is a festival buff as well. These days I hardly catch any shows/acts, except for ones that I'm a fan of. This year, Joshua Bell is performing, but I'm sure I'm too late and the tix must be sold out. Do these festivals really heighten one's appreciation for art in the long run? I can barely remember the ones I've seen eons ago. But I guess some day, one will really make an impact and perhaps change one's life? I await that day to arrive.
The fire installations are made out of firepots which are hung and strewn intermittently throughout the open space at Empress Place and the Esplanade Park across the road.
We spotted a lone fireman in yellow pacing the grounds, ready to act if things got out of hand.
I thought it was hot, not cold!
"Hanging garlands of firepots and huge ‘fairy fireballs’ – metallic spherical frames studded with firepots – beckon visitors at the Esplanade Park" says the programme synopsis. Overall, it was interesting to look at but really too hot to bear for very long.
